the Big Wild Goose Pagoda

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, located in the southern suburbs of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, is an ancient building with a long history and deep cultural connotations. It was first built in the early Tang Dynasty in 652 A.D. It was constructed by Xuanzang, a famous Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty, in order to preserve the Buddhist scriptures retrieved from India. As a symbol of Buddhist culture, it is not only an outstanding representative of ancient Chinese architectural art, but also a witness of Sino-Indian cultural exchange.

The architectural style of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda reflects the characteristics of the Tang Dynasty, adopting the traditional brick and wood structure, with the appearance of a seven-storey tower, about 64 metres high. The whole tower body is long and thin, with a solemn and dignified form, fully demonstrating the exquisite architectural craftsmanship and aesthetic pursuit of the Tang Dynasty. Inside the tower, there are spiral stone steps, so that you can climb the tower and overlook the panoramic view of Xi'an city, especially at night when the lights are shining, it looks even more magnificent.

In addition to the magnificence of the building itself, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda also carries a rich cultural connotation. The inner walls of the pagoda are painted with a large number of Buddhist murals and inscriptions, many of which are precious relics from the Tang Dynasty, recording the development and cultural heritage of Buddhism in China. The area around the Daci'en Temple, where the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located, used to be a famous Buddhist temple in the Tang Dynasty, a place for Venerable Xuanzang's sermons, thus gathering many scholars and monks and becoming one of the centres of Buddhist culture at that time.

Today, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is not only an important site of Chinese history and culture and a tourist attraction, but also listed as a World Heritage Site. Every year, it attracts countless Chinese and foreign tourists to visit and worship it, exploring the essence of Tang Dynasty culture and the charm of ancient Chinese architecture. As one of the landmarks of Xi'an, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda demonstrates the splendour of ancient Chinese architecture and culture for tourists from all over the world with its unique historical and artistic values.
